FAMILY FAMILY AND WORK FAMILY

Family is important and so are long weekends… So the Family Day long weekend is a pretty great combination (unless you hate your family or you work weekends). I had a family-filled weekend, which was is good because I like my family… especially my kid.  Honestly, she’s the best (and yes I’m biased).

I was cleaning up her playroom the other day and I came across one of her drawings.  The week before she had told me that she could draw some of my characters from memory (she sees them around the office) and showed me her version of my turtle (which is great!).  At some point after that she added the writing, so I hadn’t actually seen it until I discovered it while cleaning!  Yeah, she stole my punchline (I had her read one of my Love cards for a pre-Valentine’s Day post), but it’s amazing that she remembered it… and you gotta love her spelling of “sleep”! It’s so good I’m keeping it forever!

Some people talk about their co-workers as their “work family”… I mostly work alone, but I’ve developed some wonderful relationships with customers.  I’d consider them like… uhhh… maybe second cousins? Or weird great aunts?  Anyways, they’re all really special to me and when I found out one of my weird wholesale cousins had to close it’s doors I was SO SAD!!!  Like, seriously sad!  Be sad with me for Land & Sea Gifts in TD Square in Calgary!!!  They were a wonderful store, with wonderful staff and I’ll miss them dearly!  They were one of my first wholesale accounts and it’s been a real pleasure working with them for the past 12 YEARS! It’s really upsetting that so many brick and mortar shops are forced to close their doors these days and you really have to wonder what we can do as individuals to help.  (Less Amazon shopping might be a start?)  For those of you that are in Calgary, please make sure you support our other extended work family over at Paper Root Studios in Market Mall!  They. Are. The. Best.

Anyways, I had a great Family Day long weekend and I hope you all did too!

In other news, The Walking Dead returns to TV this month and it reminded me that when I did my inventory count last month I thought, “I should put these on sale” while I was counting my Walking Dead magnets. I had a lot of fun studying the characters and creating these illustrations, but doing Fan Art just isn’t what this company is about.  So check out The Walking Dead Magnet Collection and score some sweet magnets for only a dollar a piece (regular price is $3)!  I’ve done 25 different characters (plus a few from other TV shows) and you can snag one of each for less than $30! That’s a pretty sweet deal.  Grab a couple for yourself and a couple for your friends.  There are limited quantities, so grab them while supplies last!
